SOLIDWORKS licenses are broadly categorized in three categories as below:

2. SNL license or Network license – Also known as floating license, it will float license between client systems connected on the network. The SN starts from 9010xxxxxxxxxx.
A Term license cannot be added in the SNL.
3. Education license – This type of license are for educational and training institutes. The SN starts with 9701xxxxxxxxx.
Further to this license there is student license. The SN starts with 9020xxxxxxxxxxx.
Free student SolidWorks for a year. Select 'No serial number' Enter Promo code 918MAKER. Choose current solidworks version. But I think 2017/2018/2019 are. The ProgramData folder is a hidden folder. You can either use 'Folder options' to show hidden folders, or you can type C: ProgramData directly on to the address bar and then press Enter to access this folder. Open SolidWorks 2. Go to ‘Help’, ‘About SolidWorks'. Click on the link for “Show Serial Number” to show the SOLIDWORKS serial number currently installed in this machine. 888.688.3234 GOENGINEER.COM.

Online Licensing: It’s a combination of standalone license and Network license. This license can be floated across the systems just by logging and logging out using SOLIDWORKS customer portal login. This is possible using your existing standalone SN, at no additional cost.

SolidWork's License Keys for Students have both limited installs and an annual expiration date to protect MIT's license and MUST obtain a new key each year.
A current key for SolidWorks 2018 and Solidworks 2019 are available through a link on IS&T's SolidWorks page
To update the license you need to reset it in your installation by doing the following:
- Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features.
- Select SolidWorks and click on Change.
- In the GUI that opens, select Modify the individual installation.
- Enter the new key.
- Click through Next to the end.
- Click Modify now.
- Then relaunch SolidWorks.
On first launch, you will be asked to register again with the new license. Please do so as requested.
